Writer Harlan Ellison has passed away

In today’s very sad news department, writer and editor Harlan Ellison has died at the age of 84.

His persona was outspoken and controversial, but he was recognized as one of the finest writers of his generation. His work received Hugo, Nebula, Bram Stoker, Georges Méliès, Edgar Allan Poe, World Fantasy, Writers Guild of America, and Silver Pen awards. He was named a Grand Master by SFWA, and awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Horror Writers Association.

Since Google honored science fiction writer Octavia Butler’s birthday today with a google doodle, we decided to dig around in the archive and we actually found a version of our May 2000 interview with Ms. Butler, recorded at Balticon 34. The video quality is poor, but you can get a sense of what an interesting and classy person Ms. Butler was. It’s sad that her writing talents were taken from us so early.
