Writer Harlan Ellison has passed away

In today’s very sad news department, writer and editor Harlan Ellison has died at the age of 84.

His persona was outspoken and controversial, but he was recognized as one of the finest writers of his generation. His work received Hugo, Nebula, Bram Stoker, Georges Méliès, Edgar Allan Poe, World Fantasy, Writers Guild of America, and Silver Pen awards. He was named a Grand Master by SFWA, and awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Horror Writers Association.

Author Kate Wilhelm has passed away

Fast Forward is very sad to hear that author Kate Wilhelm passed away on March 8th, 2018.

Ms. Wilhelm’s work first appeared in the 1950s, and she won many awards, including multiple Hugos and Nebulas. She and her husband, Damon Knight, helped found the Milford and Clarion writing workshops. She lived in Eugene, Oregon.

Ursula K. Le Guin, iconic fantasy and science fiction writer, passes away

The Fast Forward team is tremendously sad to hear that writer Ursula K. Le Guin passed away on January 22nd at her home in Portland, Oregon. Ms. Le Guin was a giant in the field, and her loss creates a terrible hole we can never fill.

RIP, Ms. Le Guin.

Feb, 2017 – A Sad Month for Fans of the Genre

February, 2017 was a rough time for science fiction fans. The Fast Forward team notes with sadness the loss of the following members of our community.

On February 10th, writer Edward W. Bryant, Jr. died at his Colorado home.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then writer and editor Susan Casper passed away in her sleep on February 24th.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also on February 24th, Baltimore area fan and Baltimore Science Fiction Society President Martin Deutsch passed away.

Author Terry Pratchett has passed away

The Fast Forward team is deeply saddened to learn that Sir Terry Pratchett, author of the Discworld series, has passed away at the age of 66. Pratchett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s several years ago, but continued to write books up through last year. He appeared as a guest on Fast Forward multiple times, and was always gracious, informative and humorous. His passing is a great loss to readers everywhere.
